At the end of this Friday’s and Monday’s classes give me questions that you would like reviewed in my Wednesday review session (Wednesday Dec 5, 4-5:30pm, Broad 2160E). For students who cannot make it to my review session I have arranged that it is Webcast and Podcast. Reminder to complete instructor evaluations online. Thank you.
Please complete Class evaluations. They are really important. Thank You!
For Chapter 10 omit problems: 5, 43, and 67
Quiz 3 covers Chapters 16 and 10. In the course reader it is pages 96-124.
My Friday 4pm review session ended 6pm so the UCLA video crew dropped off the video at UCLA's Bruincast after hours. Bruincast will post it online Monday. See http://www.bruincast.ucla.edu *** Reminder to see class link: Important Midterm Information
Friday’s class: reminder to hand in workbook to your TA. Therefore students must attend only the class they are enrolled in. Over 13 hours of Midterm Review Sessions. See link on class web site: Important Midterm Information Dr. Lavelle has organized to have his review session Webcast and Podcast. See http://www.bruincast.ucla.edu
See new section Fundamentals of Quantum Mechanics. This section is for students interested in background reading on the wave-particle duality of light and matter, and the probabilistic views that are a part of quantum mechanics.
More time is needed for the workbook to cover more hybridization and molecular orbital theory. Workbooks to be handed in at the end of Friday’s class. As you leave CS50 give it to your TA in the quad area.
Remember to give me your favorite question on a piece of paper at the end of class and I will go through it during my midterm review session. All midterm review dates, times, rooms will be announced next week in class.
Past midterm exams with detailed answers are in your course reader. They are suitable for all Chem 14A classes.
All the following 8 online modules are good midterm preparation:
Empirical and Molecular Formulas
Balancing Chemical Equations
Limiting Reactant Calculations
Molarity and Dilution of a Solution
Photoelectric Effect
Atomic Spectra and The Bohr Frequency Condition
Wave Properties of Electrons and The De Broglie Equation
Heisenberg Uncertainty Equation
**One midterm problem will come from the homework.
And one midterm problem will come from the above modules.
Quiz 2 covers all material in Chapter 2 up to the end of Section 3.3 in the textbook. In the course reader it is pages 60-83. *** The Midterm covers Fundamentals, Chapters 1 & 2, and All of Chapter 3 . Therefore doing all the Quiz 2 preparatory problems (hybridization and molecular orbital theory in Chapter 3) is good midterm preparation.
Quiz 2 covers all material in Chapter 2 up to the end of Section 3.3 in the textbook. In the course reader it is pages 60-83.
The 8 online modules will be excellent preparation for Quiz 1. Work through ALL of them.
